Retro Marcasite Snake Ring
The serpent has been a constant feature in jewellery since ancient times. Archeological digs in Greece and Italy resurrected ancient mythology on the symbolism of the serpent in jewellery.
Symbolising her beauty, Aphrodite, the goddess of love, was depicted wearing a bracelet in the form of a snake. The image of the Ourobouros a serpent swallowing its tail represented everlasting life for Plato.
This 1940s interpretation is made of Sterling silver and hand cut and set marcasite stones. It has a sturdy double coil construction and beautiful engraved details, especially around it's sweet little mouth.
The ring is in excellent condition. All stones present. No wear to the band or hallmark. Care must be taken with the ring as marcasite stones are brittle and so should not be exposed to chemicals or be submersed in water as they may break or come loose.
