Mid-Century French Mix Metal Madonna Devotion Ring
№. 288
STORY:
French religious medal jewellery became super popular at the end of 19th century. It came about following a renewed interest in the art of engraving and advancements in technology.
The Virgin Mary has been a longtime symbol of protection for it's owner making this ring a meaningful and beautiful piece for it's new owner.
It's construction is reminiscent of the 1940s "tank" jewellery craze and almost has a sculptural, three dimensional aspect to it's design. It was crafted in both a rosey toned rolled gold metal and contrasting silver.
CONDITION:
The ring is in great vintage condition although there is minimal wear to the underside of the ring shank. This does not affect the wear of the ring and cannot be seen when wearing as its on the underside. There is a hand etched engraving to the back of the setting which reads "K.McVey"
ERA:
1950s
MEASUREMENTS:
The ring is a size 55 EU.
HALLMARKS:
There are two stamps to the underside of the ring shank although I cannot make them out. One is a makers mark and one relates to the metal purity.
