Edwardian Black Onyx & Marcasite Mourning Ring

A stunning Edwardian onyx stone is framed in glimmering marcasite stones. This shape and style, typical for the early 1900s, was traditionally worn as a mourning piece but black was quickly becoming a fashion statement of it's very own!

It is an expertly crafted piece with an elaborate etched design on the underside of the setting.

CONDITION:

The ring is in amazing condition for its age. All marcasite stones are present and there are no scratches to the onyx stone. The ring is large size but fits comfortably on the finger. It is designed in such a way to sit flush against the finger.

Be careful not to submerse the ring in water as this may loosen the marcasite stones. Care must also be taken not to crack or scratch the main stone (so no hard labour or house chores when you are wearing it). I would recommend polishing it with a silver cloth being careful not to snag any of the marcasites.

ca. 1910s
